State your mission

Completing a mission template is a great place to start for any innovation effort!

WHAT: Use the mission template to define your Innovation Mission - the area of focus for your innovation efforts, or efforts to create change that adds value!

WHY: A mission template is a great place to start to get alignment and clarity for any project or where you think there's an opportunity to improve, evolve or create something new.

Your mission template allows you to:

  • Define scope

  • Align expectations

  • Clarify who your most important 'customers' or people relevant to your innovation area of focus are

The mission template will ask you to consider things like...

  • What are you trying to achieve?

  • In what context?

  • Who are the most important 'customers' in the context of your mission (or people most affected by the work you're doing?)

  • What is the current state of things?

  • What do we want the future state to look like?

  • Is there anything on or off the table?

Innovation Tip

Remember to refer back to your mission template if you need clarity later on, or if you feel you've drifted off course. Sometimes tricky decisions get easier if you refer back to your mission!
